It's About Beauty...

What is your definition of beauty or pretty?? I am sure that most of you all want to look beautiful from others eyes... I read about a comment from The Star (Starmag) about the beauty issue. Just like to post it here for you to think about it..

It's all a beauty trap....
We've heard the word "beauty" all the time, regardless of which culture we are from. What is the definition of beauty?

I say beauty is actually beyond appearances and being fashionable. Being beautiful is all about being yourself, having self-esteem and loving oneself, regardless of being not-so-perfect.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, our women and girls resort to starving, waxing, dyeing, plucking, tanning, whitening and even going under the knife just to look like an A-list celebrity or be able to wear something in the name of fashion and beauty rather than for comfort and durability.

It is no surprise that women and girls have low self-esteem. They believe that they do not fulfill the alleged standards of beauty.

Beauty does not have any criteria and anyone can be beautiful, regardless the shape of her figure, her skin tone, or her dress size.

Unfortunately, the media and fashion industry tell our womenfolk that they need the latest look, lose a few kilos or puchase the most expensive narrow high heeled Manolo Blahniks in order to be beautiful.

Unless we tackle this issue, we are going to witness a future generation of women and girls who believe that one needs to look like celebrities in order to be beautiful.

MEETING NEW AND OLD FRIENDS….AND THEIR PROBLEMS

Recently, I spent a lot of time in meeting new and old friends around the town. Besides got to keep contact again with my old friends, I got to extend my circle of friends by meeting some interesting people around. Meanwhile, I came to discover the dilemmas faced by the people in this modern society.

Some of them just complained that money is not enough and they struggle hard earn more money in order to make end meet. Consequently, they just blamed that their current job can’t earn enough and looking for better job with higher pay. THIS IS MONEY PROBLEMS OF NOT ENOUGH MONEY…

Some of them who did well in their career and doing great in business, however just did not have enough time for their family and themselves. They earned a lot of money but sacrificed their quality time with their family and also their health. In the end, they were facing with family problems, and health problems. Most interestingly, some of them have the money problems of too much money. They may not have the time to spend the money earned; they may worry how to keep it safe and invested. They may not know whether people like them, or their money. AGAIN, THIS IS MONEY PROBLEMS OF TOO MUCH MONEY…

However, some people have problem with the people around them. They do not know how to maintain a good relationship with their family and friends. They are not popular in their office or home as well. So, they are always alone wherever they go. They just feel lonely and need someone to talk to sometime. They need the care and love of friends and family members.

Lastly, some of them around the age of 20 something to 30 something (young adults), they may not have money problem and may did well in their career. But, they feel lonely deep in their hearth because short of love and caring from someone they long awaited. They may look for life partner, love partner or sex partner. But, they just do not meet their Mr. Right or Ms. Right yet.
Lately, my interest in study human character, lifestyle and problems faced by them were grown deeper. At the same time, I came to understand and know more about myself and solve the problems toward a better quality life ahead.

Whatever the problems, I still believed that there will be a solution which guide us towards betterment of life and finally acquire the life’s riches.

Can I Borrow $25 ???

A good and meaningful story to share with everyone :)

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated to find his 5 years old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: Daddy, may I ask you a question?

DAD: Yeah sure, what it is?

SON: Daddy, how much do you make an hour?

DAD: That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?, the man said angrily.

SON: I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?

DAD: If you must know, I make $50 an hour.

SON: "Oh" The little boy replied, with his head down. "Daddy, may I please borrow $25?"

The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

“Are you asleep, son?”, he asked.

“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on your earlier,” said the man. “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $25 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy,” he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and the looked up at his father.
“Why do you want more money if you already have some?”, the father grumbled.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love. Have we forgotten what is really important in life? Too caught up in money, personal ambitious, and forgot how to enjoy and appreciate the sweet simplicities in life?

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

MAKING & KEEPING PROMISES

Everyday, we tend to make a lot of promises. During working hours, we have to promise our clients on the services or products delivery due date. Even in our personal life, we have to promise our loved one, family members and friends to help them to do whatever things requested. However, how often we can keep our promises and make our clients, friends or whoever concern happy and satisfy with the realization of our promise? I believe that, sometime we keep our promises and sometime tends to broke our promises because certain circumtances. For instance, you may promise to help your wife on the gardening works in your house's garden. She will definitely feels happy if you really can make it. On the other hand, if you can't keep your promise and delay your work again and again, the amount of trust on you will decrease from time to time. Do you have the same experience on this? I think it should be normal life experience :) Do you have any idea to increase other's confidence and trust on us by keeping promises?

In my opinion, how about we start it by making and keeping promises to ourselves ??? When we really can make and keep a promise to ourself first, then only we can promises others people and make it happen all the time. Are you agree on this??

Stephen Covey said in "First Things First"....
Making and keeping promises is one of the best ways to strengthen our independent will. Each time we do, we make deposits in our Personal Integrity Account. This is a metaphor that describes the amount of trust we have in ourselves, in our ability to walk our talk.

It is important to start small, make and keep a promise, even if it means you're going to get up in the morning a little earlier and exercise. Be sure you don't violate that commitment and be sure you don't overpromise and underdeliver. Don't risk making a withdrawal from the Personal Integrity Account. Build slowly until yoursense of honor becomes greater than your moods.

Our lives are the results of our choices. We choose either to live our lives or to let others live them for us. By making and keeping promises to ourselves and to others, little by little we increase our strength until our ability to act is more powerful than any of the factors that act upon us.

Just look back on some of our personal experience, we promises to..
a) wake up a bit earlier for morning jog...
b) finish some houseworks after a tiring working days...
c) and so on...

TO some of us, we really can't keep our promises even it is just a small matter. So learn to make and keep small promises by today before going for the big one..

Have a nice day :)

IT'S NOT A SPRINT, IT’S A MARATHON !!!!

If you’d never run a mile and I told you to run a marathon today, that would seem impossible, wouldn’t it?

But you know how all long-distance runners start?

They start by running just a block or two their first day of training. Actually, most don’t run. They just jog. And some don’t even jog. They just sort of walk first.

The point is, they start off going maybe two blocks, then three blocks, then a half-mile, then a mile, then a couple of miles.

And before they know it, several months have passed and they’ve gone from being out of shape to being able to run a marathon. (Source: Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach)

“I have run in marathons. To prepare for a marathon, I would practice running 8 km daily for three months before the event. Two weeks before the marathon, I would practice at least one 21 km trial run.”

“During the actual marathon, I remember that after the first half of the run, that is, the first 21 km, I would be exhausted. I would ask myself at that point: Why am I doing this? Still, if I had given up the race then and walked back, I would still have to travel 21 km to the starting point, just as if I continued, I would have 21 km ahead of me to the finish line. I had no choice but to complete the whole 42 km run.”

“The second half of the run is harder; it took all of my mind to push my tired legs to move forward one step at a time. Life is a lot like running a marathon. You can achieve anything extraordinary by firstly, being prepared for it, and secondly, by persisting at it”, said Dr. Peter Yee ( author of The Certain Way to Life’s Riches).

The Clock And The Compass In Our Life....

What is the CLOCK AND COMPASS in our life???? I started to read The First Things First by Stephen Covey recently and read about the clock and compass in life.

The clock represents our commitments, appointments, schedules, goals, activities - what we do with, and how we manage our time. The compass represents our vision, values, principles, mission, conscience, direction - what we feel is important and how we lead our lives. The struggle comes when we sense a gap between the clock and the compass - when what we do doesn't contribute to what is most important in our lives.

For some of us, the pain of the gap is intense. We can't seem to walk our talk. We feel trapped, controlled by other people or situations. We're always responding to crises. We're constantly caught up in "the thick of thin things" - putting out fires and never making time to do what we know would make a difference. We feel as though our lives are being lived for us.

For others of us, the pain is vague discomfort. We just can't get what we feel we should do, what we want to do, and what we actually do all together. We're caught in dilemmas. We feel so guilty over what we're not doing. We can't enjoy what we do.

Some of us feel empty. We've defined happiness solely in terms of professional or financial achievement, and we find that our "success" did not bring us the satisfaction we thought it would. We've painstakingly climbed the "ladder of success" rung by rung - the diploma, the late nights, the promotions - only to discover as we reached the top rung that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall. Absorbed in the ascent, we've left a trail of shattered relationships or missed moments of deep, rich living in the wake of the intense, overfocused effort. In our race up the rungs, we simply did not take the time to do what really mattered most.

Others of us feel disoriented or confused. We have no real sense of what "first things" are. We move from one activitiy to another on automatic. Life is mechanical. Once in a while, we wonder if there's any meaning in our doing.

Some of us know we're out of balance, but we don't have confidence in other alternatives. Or we feel the cost of change is too high. Or we're afraid to try. It's easier to just live with the imbalance.
(Source: First Things First by Stephen R. Covey)

So, are you falling in one of the dillemas as stated??? How to close the gap between the clock and the compass in our life?? If you have any opinions, please leave a comments here :)

1st of October... My Special Day !!!

30th of September... the few hours, few minutes and few seconds before the arriving of 1st of October of every year marks a special moment to me because the first day of the month of October is my BIRTHDAY !! The moment i am typing for this paragraph of words to post on my blog... is just the important moment for me to look back at what i have done for the last whole year, reassess my personal development and achievement and refresh myself to move towards my life's dreams and riches. Time never wait for me... i will be 26 years old in the next 10 minutes later. I am just alone for this special night since my loved one is away and cant celebrate with me. However, it is just good enough to be alone to think of my life, dreams, targets in the next 26 years maybe :)

In this special nights, i will never forget to share a meaningful article which i read recently and brought me to know who is Adam Khoo. Adam Khoo is a self-made millionaire in Singapore by the age of 26, and is now "the Executive Chairman and Chief Master Trainer of Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group Pte Ltd and a director of seven other private companies. Adam is also a director of the Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB)."

I did read a posting from his blog entiled "Are You Living Like A Prostitute?" which is really inspired me. I have repusblihed some of the inspiring workds as below...

Then some people ask me, ‘What is the point in making so much money if you don’t enjoy it?’ The thing is that I don’t really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while…it does not last. Material happiness never lasts, it just give you a quick fix. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life.

Instead, what makes ME happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see by companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries. What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone’s life. What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this BLOG is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me.

I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come from doing your life’s work (be in teaching, building homes, designing, trading, winning tournaments etc…) and the money that comes is only a by-product. If you hate what you are doing and rely on the money you earn to make you happy by buying stuff, then I think that you are living a life no better than a prostitute.
(Source: http://www.adam-khoo.com/?s=travelling+economy)

Until this moment, i am extremely confident that i never live like a postitute and i did achieve a lots in this 26 years (although i am not a self-made millionaire like Adam Khoo.. haha) which was full of challenges, hopes and struggles, that finally brought me the true happiness i am enjoying with my loved ones all this while which i am always looking for :)

Together we moving towards achieving our life's riches.... Happy Birthday to Myself :)

WORLD HEART DAY '08

I just read an informative articles on newspaper which brought me to the National Heart Institute website at http://www.ijn.com.my/ which published the article about the World Hearth Day 2008 - 'Know Your Rish'. I had published here for your information and knowledge...

Which is why the call to action for World Heart Day 2008 is ‘Know Your Risk’ – a worldwide campaign to get people to become better educated and aware of the many personal threats for cardiovascular disease and what they can do to prevent it.
Although heart disease primarily affects middle-age men, and women over the age of 60, people from as young as 20 should know their risk factors. Particularly preventable ones such as smoking, high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity and physical inactivity, amongst others.

CHANGE YOUR HABIT, REDUCE YOUR RISK
Heart, or cardiovascular disease is mostly caused by what we do, or don’t do on a daily basis. Thus, it is up to us to change and improve our habits and lifestyle to reduce the risk of getting coronary heart conditions and maintain a healthy heart.

EATING HABIT
What, and how much you eat have a direct impact on the health of your heart. Studies have shown that the higher your blood cholesterol level, the greater your risk for heart disease. A diet low in saturated fat can reduce your cholesterol levels. To incorporate a leaner, healthier eating habit, you should eat more fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, starchy vegetables, lean meat and seafood. These foods have been found to be effective in preventing heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and obesity. It is important not just to eat the right stuff but also to watch the amount of food you take. It is common knowledge that obesity increases the risk of heart disease so maintaining a healthy weight is very important to achieving a healthy heart.
SMOKING HABIT
Many studies have shown that cigarette smoking is a major cause of coronary heart disease which leads to heart attack. Smokers have a higher risk of developing several chronic disorders including atherosclerosis, or buildup of fatty substances in the arteries, decreasing oxygen-rich blood supply to the heart. Smokers continue to increase their risk of heart attack the longer they smoke but quitting can reduce the risk of repeat heart attacks and death by 50% or more.

EXERCISING HABIT
An inactive lifestyle with complete physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Simple and fun aerobic exercises such as brisk walking, jogging, skipping rope, bicycling and dancing can help reduce blood pressure and are good for your heart when done regularly for 30 minutes or longer every day or on most days. Even moderately intense physical activity such as walking for pleasure and gardening are beneficial for the heart when done regularly on a daily basis.

BEHAVIOURAL HABIT
Anger and uncontrolled stress can lead to high blood pressure which in turn increases the risk of developing coronary heart disease and stroke. Anger and stress management techniques can be helpful in reducing your stress level, and therefore, your risk factor for heart disease. Some examples of reducing your stress level are practicing yoga, meditation and laughter therapy.

Prevention is definitely better, and much less expensive than cure. It takes a lot of courage, perseverance, patience, time and discipline to change your habits, but nothing is impossible. Know your risk, and adopt a healthier lifestyle today.

International Day of Peace - September 21

The United Nations' International Day of Peace - marked every year on September 21 - is a global holiday when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace.

Established by U.N. resolution in 1982, "Peace Day" has grown to include millions of people around the world who participate in all kinds of events, large and small.

As John Lennon used to say, "All We Are Saying is Give Peace A Chance." May Peace Prevail On Earth!

Our Life Journey....

What matters most in our life? Are we on target? Are we on track regarding what matters most?

The truth is, we're all off track most of the time, all of us - every individual, family, organization or international flight to Rome. Just realizing this is a significant step. But, for many of us, the feeling of being off track brings with it discouragement and despair. It needn't and shouldn't be so depressing. Knowing we're off track is really an invitation to realign ourselves with true north (principles) and recommit ourselves to our destination.

Remember, our journey as an individual, team or organization is like the flight of an airplane. Before the planes take off, the pilots file a flight plan. They know exactly where they're going. But during the course of the flight, wind, rain, turbulence, air traffic, human error and other factors act upon the plane. They move that plane slightly in different directions so that most of the time it is not even on the prescribed flight path. But barring anything too major, the plane will still arrive at its destination.

Now how does that happen? During the flight, the pilots receive constant feedback. They receive information from instruments that read the environment, control towers, other airplanes - even sometimes from the stars. And based on that feedback, they make adjustments so that time and time again, they return to the original plan.

Our life journey is just the same as the flight of an airplane. We are the pilot and we determine the flight plane (our dreams or life's target) and we know exactly where we want to go. Along the journey, we may facing some difficulties, obstacles which may discourage, demotivate or disturbing our main priority as targeted earlier. No matter how, remember that modeling, pathfinding, aligning and empowering ourselves along our life journey sure will bring us back on track to our life's target :)

Keep Motivate Yourself Daily...

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily" - Zig Ziglar

By definition motivation means that which motivates, that which makes us take action towards our desired goals and which gives purpose and direction to those actions. Now we all know that very often we lose our motivation and we allow procrastination to dominate our life. Without our motivation, we stop taking action and doing the things we really want to do, we stop achieving the things we really want to achieve and we stop believing we are capable of becoming whoever we want to be.

The secret to beating procrastination is that we need to keep motivated. Everyday we must do something, anything that gets us motivated, whether it's listening to your favourite song, going for that morning run or simply reading some quotes. Everyday we must motivate ourselves because when we are motivated we have energy, we have ideas and we have dreams and we pursue those dreams with our unbounded faith that we will achieve them and more.

How to keep motivated everyday ??? Here is a few tips for you....
1) Read a few motivating quotes from famous speakers and historical figures daily
2) Having the habit of reading motivation and self-improvement books
3) Write down all your goals and list of dreams together with words of encouragement and place them at places where you can see them everyday

So far.. this is what i did to motivate myself :)

Be Thankful In Life...

Confession of the day..... An hour ago, i just check through my e-mail and got to read a meaningful forward message from my friend with the presentation slides as shown above. It is neither a funny jokes or any wishing messages as usual... but it did send a clear message to all of us that we must be thankful of all that we have in our life. We must be appreciate and feel lucky enough with our living condition and keep on helping others in need.

Are you always complaining about your life??? Just observe around you and be thankful :) This messages really touching my heart deeply and make me want to share it here and hope everyone can take some time to share this with all your friends, colleagues and family members as well.

How Would You Define Leadership??

Horst Schulze, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel's former longtime President and Chief Operating Officer said....

"Leadership is creating an environment in which people want to be part of the organization and not just work for the organization. Leadership creates an enviroment that makes people want to, rather than have to, do. It is a business imperative to creat that environment. I must give purpose, not just work and function. As a businessperson, I am obligated to create an environment where people feel part of something, feel fulfilled, and have purpose. It is purpose - it is value in their lives - that leads people to truly give of their minds. Then you are getting the maximum from them, and are giving the maximum to the person. Anything less is irresponsible to the organization and demands more handling by the individual."

"When you see people only as fulfilling a function, you're treating them like a thing, like the chair you're sitting on. I don't think we as humans can assume the right to do that. None of us want to be just something standing in a corner. We found the greatest satisfaction for an employee is to feel part of something and to feel trusted to make decisions and to contribute."

"Everyone is a knowledge worker in their specific area, and undoubtedly the dishwasher has more knowledge about their situation than I have. So that dishwasher can contribute to the improved environment, work conditions, productivity, lack of dish breaking, etc. They can contribute their knowledge in their area tremendously."

"I had a young man from Nairobi who joined me as a dishwasher in the hotel about sixteen years ago. He couldn't speak proper English, but he was a very hardworking young man. After a while, they offered him a job in room service, then as a room service leader, then a lobby attendant, then a bartender, then he became an assistant lobby manager; he's now the food and beverage director. He's the number-two man in the hotel, and started as a dishwasher."

Waking Up In The Morning - My Story.....

My Book's Collection......

My Favaurite Books.....

Not long time ago, waking up early in the morning to go to work or classes during my universitly life is just the difficult moment for me. The mixed feeling of laziness and demotivate were always grewing out in each morning of the day. This is not really a good feeling and best way in welcoming a brand new day. This situation should be cause by many reasons. But, today, i just want to share with you all what i am doing to start a brand new day in a more motivate and happier way. What should i do???

Every morning after getting up from my bed....
1) I will start my day with a sweet smile and telling myself that "TODAY WILL BE A GREAT DAY !!!! YEAH !!!".

2) After that.. I will check through my weekly timesheet (time schedule) in order to check my planned activities need to be done for the day. I always remind myself that "NOT TO START A DAY UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO !!!

3) Following by that, I just like to read a few paragraphs of inspiring and motivating sentences from my favourite motivation books. I have the habit of starting and finishing my day in a inspiring and motivating mode, which is by reading the motivation materials from any sources that i can access.. from books, newspapers or internet.

4) Finally, i am just feeling fresh and motivated to go to work and continue my efforts to chase for my dreams...

"People often say that motivation does't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily" - Zig Ziglar

Always start a day by keep myself motivated is just my way toward achieving my life's goal and live my life to the fullest !!!!

Stay Resilience In Life....

RESILIENCE means knowing how to cope in spite of setbacks, barriers or limited resources. Resilience is a measure of how much you want something and how much you are willing, and able, to overcome obstacles to get it.

Remember Abraham Lincoln? You wouldn't, if he had given up. In 1832, he was defeated for the state legislature. Then he was elected to it in 1834. In 1838, he was defeated for speaker of the state house. In 1840, he was defeated for elector. He ran for Congress in 1843 and, guess what, he was defeated. He was elected to Congress in 1846 and then lost for re-election in 1849. He ran for United States Senate in 1855 and was defeated. In 1856, he was defeated for vice-president. He ran again for the US Senate in 1858 and lost. And in 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the US - but only after eight major setbacks. That is resilience!!

Your challenge to stay resilient may not be quite the same as Abe Lincoln's. You might be working on making a sales quota when 90% of your prospects say "no". You might be pushing for a change in your department and you have to fight with the management. You might be trying to get your co-workers to recycle paper to save money and trees. When you are up against obstacles, you can either maintain your resilience - or cave in to defeat.

Bus operators to get toll charge reductions, soft loan facilities, tax exemptions on bus purchase and road tax cut to only RM20 a year. Taxi operators will also benefit from lower road tax. Diesel vehicles to be reduced to match that of petrol engine vehicles.

HOTELS/TOURISM
New investments by 4-star and 5-star hotel operators in Sabah and Sarawak to be given pioneer status and an allocation of RM50mil for conservation works of heritage sites in Malacca and Penang.

PUBLIC SAFETY
RM5.4bil to enhance the capacity of the Royal Malaysian Police. In addition, all business premises installed with security control equipment be given Accelerated Capital Allowance, which is fully claimable within one year.

WHAT THEY SAY…
FOMCA.. CONSUMER groups are concerned that the huge amount of money pumped into the public transportation system will not yield direct and immediate assistance to the needy.
“It does not result in cheaper fares immediately. What is needed is subsidy to reduce the operating cost of bus companies, which in turn allow them to reduce fares and not impose surcharges,” said Muhammad Sha’ani (FOMCA secretary-general).

“This is essentially an expansionary budget, a deficit budget. Malaysia is the only country which continues to register a major deficit,” said Anwar Ibrahim, new Opposition Leader.

“I think people would be able to cope with the cost of living better if they had a minimum pension of RM900,” said the National Council of Senior Citizens Organisation Malaysia (Nacscom) president, Datuk Lum Kin Tuck.

“On behalf of the disabled community, I must say I am disappointed with the RM150 allowance for the non-working disabled”, said Malaysian Confederation of the Disabled president Mah Hassan.

“At a pre-Budget consultation, we had asked for a RM500 allowance across the board for the disabled. What can you do with RM150? I’m very, very sad”, said Independent Living and Training Centre President, Francis Siva.

“There seems to be no new money included and they are only recycling ideas such as the extensions of LRT systems to Subang-USJ and Kinrara-Puchong, which has been talked about since 2005-2006. Most of the plans for LRT are focused in the Klang Valley. How about the other places in Malaysia?,” said Moaz Yusof Ahmad, adviser of the Association for the Improvement of Mass Transit Klang Valley (Transit).

Allocation for Orang Asli…
“But whether they actually reached their target group is another thing. From our experience, for every RM100 allocated, only RM10 reaches the orang asli,” Yayasan Orang Asli Perak chairman said.

WHAT OTHERS SAY….
“The Budget has considered the needy and poor, and at the same time the middle class which enjoys a reduction in income tax,” said MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

“The Government is moving in the right direction by enhancing public health services,” said Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai.

“Diesel engines are actually more reliable and fuel efficient. This reduction (road tax reduction) will spur the growth of diesel car sales,” said Malaysian Automative Association president, Datuk Aishah Ahmad.

“It is unexpected. And it will help overcome the shortage of nurses in the future,” said Malaysia Nurses Association president Ramziah Ahmad on the Budget’s focus on the nursing profession.

“It is a welcome relief for all of us (one-month salary bonus). I was worried I would not be able to buy new clothes for my parents, something I have been doing since I started work a few years ago. I will need to save as well since I am planning to buy a house,” said Kamarul, who is with the Public Service Commission.

“The announcement is in line with MBAM”s constant call to address the shortage of skilled construction workers in this country, as well as the need to emphasise increasing the quality of trained construction workers,” said Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) secretary-general Yap Yoke Keong.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said: “The increased amount is a reflection of the seriousness of the Government in implementing the transformation of higher education in the country in line with the National Higher Education Strategic Plan.”

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said, “It will help enhance the force’s capability in ensuring better services and delivery system to the public while the installation of CCTVs at strategic locations will help in crime prevention.”

WHAT BLOGGERS SAY….

“It's a handyplast budget to stop instant bleeding while fundamental wounds worsen. He triggered the high-flying inflation by implementing reckless strategies in fuel pricing and subsidy withdrawal schedule. Now he thinks by increasing the budget to an unprecedented budget of RM207.9 billion for 2009, the economy will be all right and the people happy. Foolish. He is even a copy cat. When Selangor gave free water to the lower income group, Umno MPs and state assemblymen called it 'membazir'. Now, he announced that electricity charges for those using RM20 and below per month would be waived. Imitation must be Umno's sincerest form of flattery.”

Rocky’s bru (rockybru.blogspot.com) said…
“Since the Government has not much money, I expected the Finance Minister to push up prices of alcohol and fags to the ceiling. But that didn't happen. Cigarettes will cost about 60 sen more a pack only and the prices of alcohol remain the same. Even if the Government had increased Marlboro prices by 63 percent (which was how much the prices of diesel was increased the last time) cigarettes in Malaysia would still be among the cheapest in the region. The amount of money earned by the Government from higher prices of cigarette and alcohol could be used to improve the transportation system.”

Tony Pua (tonypua.blogspot.com) PJ Utara MP said…
“Next year, the budgeted operational expenditure is another record RM154.2 billion. This figure is both shocking and scary as operational expenditure for the government when Abdullah Badawi first became prime minister in 2004 was only RM80.5 billion. In just a short period of four to five years, government operational expenditure has increased by 91.5% or RM73.7 billion. This raises the question as to what the government is spending its money on which requires such substantial increase in operational expenses?”

Lim Kit Siang (blog.limkitsiang.com) said…
“Abdullah attacks ‘populist’ claims while presenting populist budget”. This thought occurred to me when the Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced a string of goodies in his 2009 Budget in Parliament today, including the following:
“Those who use less than RM20 of electricity per month will not be charged.”

The Obnoxious 5xmon (www.chanlilian.net) said…
“I seriously think Pak Lah is a bit out of touch. He thinks that we Malaysians all can afford blender, microwave oven and electric kettle to prepare our daily meals. My dear Pak Lah, this is not what the poor folks use. They are struggling with expensive rice, flour and other basic things. They only have money for cheap aluminium pots and if they are lucky, gas cooker. Don’t mock us with cheaper kitchen gadgets like these, please.”

Choonie (siawchoon.blogspot.com) said….
“Overall I think, Pak Lah is trying to win our heart! But I dun think he can do much to boost our Malaysia's market. I dun see the fuel price will further reduced. I dun see the price of the normal good will decreased too. I dun use electricity around RM20 a month. The road tax and tax deduction are just a little bit of my yearly expenses. I will see further inflation though. *sigh*”

Lastly, this Budget do bring good news to the needy and poor Rakyat. However, the implementaion and delivery system for each allocation must be improved based on previous experience.

FOCUS ON YOUR LIFE...

26th August 2008 - a significant day to Malaysians because a hot and popular by-election at Permatang Pauh will be held by today. It becomes the news headline for the last whole week because somebody claimed that a new Prime Minister will be on the way to enter the Parliment of Malaysia and forming a new federal government. Hence, it can be say as a great battle between the two largest political parties of Malaysia, which is Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Barisan Nasional (BN). During this campaign period, all the politicians and supporter going all out and work restlessly to gain support from all the qualified voters. They do whatever they can do within the limited time frame towards their goal to win the by-election. From my sides, i discovered and learn about their endless struggling and fighting spirit until the last minute just to win the battle. They all having a clear vision, knowing their roles well and put in all their effort to make their dream come true. To all those quality and good politician, i really salute and respect their leadership and highest spirit in the willingness to lead the country toward better future.

Meanwhile, how about you and me who lead a decent life ? Do we have our own clear vision and action plans to win in our life? Are we progressing towards our life's goal? This is the question pop up in my mind after noticed about the political scene at my beloved country right now. At the same time, i came to read a short but meaningful paragraph in a book entitled, "The 8th Habit - From Effectiveness to Greatness" wrote by Stephen R. Covey. This short paragraph of words did remind me, motivate me to work harder and focus on my life's goal.

The meaningful words begins as..... your first job is to get your act together - to create FOCUS in your life. You simply have to decide what matters most to you. What are your highest values? What vision do you have for your life? What about your work at home as a father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, cousin, son or daughter? What kind of service would you like to give your community, your church, your neighborhood and others in need? How important is your health? How are you going to maintain and enhance your health? Some have said that health is wealth and that without it, no other wealth matters. What about your mind, your growth and development? How important is that to you? What about your work? What are your true talents? Where does your passion lie? Where are the greatest needs in your organization and in the marketplace? On what projects and initiatives does your conscience inspire you to take action? How will you truly make a difference in your work? What will your legacy be?

To my lovely readers, please spare some time to think about all these question brought out by the author and hopefully you can get 'something' from it. I did since i read the book entiled "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People also by the same author. Have a nice day !!!

Why do we go to university?

"Lifelong learning is an journey to success, which may make our dream comes true"

You were born with potential.
You were born with goodness and trust.
You were born with ideals and dreams.
You were born with greatness.
You were born with wings.
You are not meant for crawling, so don't.
You have wings.
Learn to use them and fly.
(By Rumi)

Recently, I had reading quite a numbers of blogs published by popular bloggers and politicians of my beloved country, Malaysia. Meanwhile, an interesting article attracts my attention and brought me to think into that topic deeply. The article entitled "Why do we go to university?" wrote by popular blogger Jeff Ooi. I just would like to share with everyone who cares about education about this articles. In my opinion, it really helps those, especially parents and students to think about what is the purpose they attend university. However, the purposes or answers may different from one to another based on their own values and views on life. For me, i am not in the category of those attend popular courses in top university because of the wish to make big money in future. Please feel free to enjoy the reading of the article as below...

Why do we go to university?
Oon Yeoh Aug 19, 08 5:08pm

University life seems like an eternity ago and I barely remember any of my professors or the subjects they taught me. There was, however, one memorable lesson given by a guest lecturer whose name I cannot recall but whose message still resonates with me until today.

In light of the controversy that followed Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim's suggestion that UiTM open itself to some non-Malays, I would like to share what I learned from that guest lecturer who was invited to give a talk in the sports journalism class I was taking.

He was a baseball expert but when he took to the podium, he told us that he was not going to talk about America's favourite pastime.Instead, he had a question for all of us: "Why are you all in college?"

That seemed like an easy enough question to answer. Several students quickly put up their hands.

"So we can get a good job one day and make lots of money!" said one student, to loud laughter.

The lecturer smiled and said, "Come on, we all know that there are many people who never went to college and are rich beyond imagination."

"To get an education," said another student.

"You don't necessarily have to go to college to do that," the lecturer said. "Many people get their education through the school of hard knocks."

Another student said, "To get a degree. You can't get that unless you go to university."

To that, the lecturer replied, "That's not true. You can take correspondence courses."

At that point, everybody seemed stumped so the lecturer finally said, "The main reason you go to college is to learn to socialise" and he proceeded to elaborate.

When you graduate and enter the work force, you will be surrounded by generally like-minded people with roughly the same educational background and social status.

If you are in banking, the people around you would have probably studied finance. If you are in the medical field, the people you mingle with will be fellow doctors and nurses. And if you are in architecture, your network of friends and associates will inevitably be those in the building and construction industry.

Unless you happen to have a very unique job that requires you to mingle with a broad range of people, the harsh reality is that your world will be constrained by your career choices.

College is the only time in your life when you are exposed to all kinds of people from all walks of life and from very different backgrounds – unless of course you go to UiTM.

While preparing to do a podcast on the controversy surrounding Khalid's comments, my podcasting partner, Ong Kian Ming, said something remarkably similar to what the guest lecturer had said. "The whole idea of a university is for different people to get together and interact."

He's spot on, just as the guest lecturer was. If you don't learn how to deal with a myriad of people and expose yourself to different worldviews when you are in the spring time of your life – when you are young and carefree – how will you ever be able to do so when you enter the "real world" and have to cope with the challenges and insecurities of carving out a career and struggling to make ends meet every month?

As mentioned earlier, your world will naturally constrained by the career track that you choose. But if you've had exposure to diversity early on, you would have a better chance of broadening your network beyond what would normally be the case – because you learned how to do so when you were young.

I was very lucky to have attended a cosmopolitan American university which had students from all over the US and indeed, the world. I had classmates from every continent. Some were rich, some poor; some were from developed countries, some from the third world. But in college, all of us were equals - we attended class together, we did assignments together, we played together.

Not to denigrate the value of academic lessons – they are important, of course – but my experiences in dealing with and socialising with classmates who were very different from me played a bigger role in my personal growth and development than any specific subjects I learned.

Granted, there are no universities in Malaysia that can offer the diversity you could find in popular American universities, which make it a point to take in students from all over the world.

But Malaysia does have a pretty diverse population. Even without the benefit of foreign students, there's a lot that our young people can learn from schoolmates of different ethnicity, religions and backgrounds. What a shame if we don't give them a chance to do that.

In our most recent podcast article, Kian Ming and I asked: "Can UiTM really aspire to be a world-class university if all the students there are of one particular race?" The people who are protesting Khalid's suggestion would do well to ponder upon this rhetorical question.

BREAKING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

“I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I couldn’t fail.
The same four walls and busywork
were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,
But I stayed inside my comfort zone and
paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much.
I said I didn’t care for things like diamonds, cars and such,
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I kept longing for some victory of my own.

I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win!
I held my breath and stepped outside
to let the change begin.

I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and
closed and locked the door.

If you are in a comfort zone afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners at one time were filled with
similar doubt. A step or two and words of praise can
make your dreams come true. Greet your future with a smile –
success is there for you.”

Ideal Lifestyle = Dream Comes True + Real Success In Life

Somewhere between college graduation and your second job, a chorus enters your internal dialogue: be realistic and stop pretending. Life isn’t like the movies. If you’re five years old and say you want to be an astronaut, your parents tell you that you can be anything you want to be. It’s harmless, like telling a child that Santa Claus exists. If you pass 25 and announce you want to float in space or sail around the world, the response is different: be realistic, become a lawyer or an accountant or a doctor, have babies, and raise them to repeat the cycle. Put all of your disposable income in a 401(k) and do your best to enjoy your "too-weak" vacation.

However, “Lifestyle Design” offers more interesting options and reverses this repression. According to Timothy Ferriss (author of The 4-Hour Work Week – The No.1 New York Times Bestseller), the rules of reality can be bent. It just requires thinking in different terms. It is not an impossible dream to live our ideal lifestyle, the costs involved is less than what you think. (For further reading: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/lifestyle-costing/ ).

Actually, we must fully understand our needs and dreams, know exactly where we are, who we are and where we want to go, what we must do next to achieve our life’s goals. Always remember that, your life is in your hands, to make of it what you choose. For true success, ask yourself these four questions: Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?

I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people, who live what they teach, who walk their talk. (Anthony Robbins)
